Countdown to Christmas Calendar

Is your child driving you nuts wondering how many more days until Santa arrives with their toys? Here is a fun way for the kids to countdown.

Items needed
Edible Icing:

  • 2 cups shortening
  • 8 cups of Imperial Sugar Confectioners Powdered Sugar or Dixie Crystals Confectioners Powdered Sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Food coloring, if desired

Art Supplies:

  • Poster board
  • Markers
  • Stickers
  • Plastic knife
  • Christmas candy (wrapped)
  • Hole punch
  • Christmas ribbon

Instructions

  1. Make the edible icing and set aside.
  2. Draw an advent calendar on poster board.
  3. Decorate the calendar with markers and stickers (let your child use their imagination).
  4. After he/she is done decorating, use the plastic knife to spread edible icing on the wrapped candy and place one candy on each space of the calendar.
  5. Lay the calendar flat until the icing dries, then punch 2 holes in the top and loop the Christmas ribbon through them for hanging.
  6. Let your child remove one piece of candy from the calendar each day as a sweet reminder of the number of days left to Santa’s visit.
Memories & Stories

Imperial Sugar Company,
My first memory of cooking was when I was about 11. My mom worked and I was an only child so I spent most of my days entertaining myself. Mom worked for a really sweet elderly couple, Mom and Pop Langer. I loved them. I started cooking brownies, cakes and cookies for them. Whatever I cooked, Pop Langer always made a big fuss over how good it was. He made me feel so good. I followed Mom’s recipes to the letter and I still do that today. I can’t cook without a recipe. My three granddaughters love to help me with the cooking and I know they would love to have their own cookbook.

Sincerely,
Sharon Gates
